Pediatric Occupational Therapy for Stress & Overwhelm
The nervous system becomes overwhelmed not from a single cause, but from the accumulation of adaptations to stress, sensory input, and environmental demands over time. We help children build the regulation foundation that focus, learning, and confidence rest on.
Build a strong neurological foundation — because development, regulation, resilience, and learning all emerge from the stability of the system beneath them.

It is like building a house: our approach is to ensure the foundation is not built on sand. We start by strengthening the nervous system first, giving higher skills like focus, learning, and behavior something solid to stand on.
Who this is for
This is for parents, caregivers, educators, and therapists who sense that a child's challenges may be deeper than behavior alone and are looking for therapy that goes beyond just "play."
It is especially for parents who feel like they have tried everything — different strategies, behavior charts, rewards, consequences, therapy approaches — yet the improvements don't seem to last.
You may notice signs such as:
- Difficulty with focus and attention
- Frequent emotional meltdowns or stress responses
- Sensory sensitivities to sound, touch, or movement
- Challenges with coordination, handwriting, or motor skills
- A child who seems easily overwhelmed by everyday environments
These challenges are often not simply behavioral problems. They can reflect a nervous system that is working hard to stay regulated. Our goal is to help strengthen the nervous system's foundation, so children can feel calmer in their bodies, more confident in their abilities, and more ready to learn and participate in everyday life.
Frequently asked questions
How do I schedule an evaluation?
Self-pay families can book a $150 evaluation directly through our HIPAA-secure scheduler. Insurance families: have your PCP fax a referral to 207-945-8089.
Is telehealth available?
Yes. We offer virtual pediatric OT for families who prefer care from home, or who are outside central Maine. Telehealth slots are typically available the same week.
How do I know if my child needs OT?
Signs may include meltdowns, sensory sensitivities, sleep issues, focus struggles, or coordination delays. Take our free 3-minute Sensory Profile Screener to find out.
What happens during an evaluation?
Your child's evaluation looks at sensory processing, motor skills, primitive reflexes, regulation, and daily function — led by Earl Mamaril, MS, OTR/L, or a member of our clinical team.
Do I need a referral?
Only for insurance pathways. Self-pay families can book directly without a referral. For insurance, your PCP must fax a referral to our HIPAA-secured line at 207-945-8089.
What makes Sensory Therapy Place different?
We address retained primitive reflexes — the developmental blueprint your child's nervous system started with. Most pediatric OT clinics don't screen for these. We do, on every evaluation.
Can I start before committing to ongoing therapy?
Yes. Families can begin with a single evaluation, a parent coaching telehealth call, or our 4-visit STP Foundation Plan ($499.99 — saves $100).
