Proprioception & Vestibular Therapy Swing — OT-Recommended Sensory Swing for Kids with Autism, ADHD & Sensory Processing
Swinging that does more than feel fun — it regulates the vestibular system and calms the whole nervous system.
This indoor/outdoor therapy swing is a cornerstone sensory tool used by pediatric occupational therapists for vestibular and proprioceptive regulation. The rhythmic, linear swinging motion sends direct input to the vestibular system — the brain's movement and balance center — helping children who are dysregulated, overstimulated, or stuck in a state of high arousal shift toward calm and focus.
For children who are constantly spinning, crashing, bouncing, or can't sit still — this swing gives the nervous system what it's craving in a safe, controlled way.
Who it helps
- Children with sensory processing disorder who are sensory seekers (vestibular)
- Kids with autism who need movement input to regulate and calm
- Children with ADHD who can't sit still or focus without movement
- Children with anxiety — slow linear swinging activates the parasympathetic nervous system
- Children with primitive reflex retention — swinging supports reflex integration
- Kids ages 3 and up; supports children up to 220 lbs
Sensory systems supported
- Vestibular — the primary sensory benefit; movement and balance regulation
- Proprioceptive — joint and muscle input from holding the swing and body position
- Tactile — the soft nylon cocoon provides comforting pressure around the body
- Interoceptive — rhythmic movement helps children tune into their body's calm state
How to use it (OT-guided)
- Slow linear swinging (front to back): The most calming and organizing motion. Use for 10–20 minutes during a sensory break or after school decompression.
- Before homework or meals: 10 minutes of vestibular input before a focused task primes the nervous system for attention.
- During emotional dysregulation: Invite your child into the swing as an alternative to a meltdown — the cocoon shape provides containment and calming pressure.
- Avoid fast spinning unless directed by your child's OT — rotary vestibular input requires clinical guidance.
Installation note
Includes hardware for ceiling mount installation. Always mount to a load-bearing joist or beam. Adult supervision required during use. Supports up to 220 lbs.
