Kids Foldable Balance Beam — Pediatric OT Tool for Balance & Coordination

$65.00

A safe way for kids who never stop moving to build balance, coordination, and body awareness right at home.

In OT sessions, this is one of the most common patterns I see: a child who runs laps around the living room every night after school, climbing and balancing along whatever's nearby like every surface is a tightrope. Homework waits, dinner waits — his body needs to move before he can sit still.

It's rarely defiance — often what looks like restlessness is a nervous system searching for the vestibular and proprioceptive input it needs, and giving that drive to climb and balance a dedicated, safe outlet tends to work far better than asking a child to just stop.

What is the Foldable Balance Beam, and how does it help kids?

The Foldable Balance Beam is a padded foam beam that gives kids a safe, low-to-the-ground surface to practice balance, coordination, and body control. Walking a narrow beam asks the brain and body to work together — which makes it one of the simplest, most effective ways to deliver the vestibular (balance) and proprioceptive (body awareness) input many kids are seeking when they climb, jump, or can't sit still.

Who this helps

  • Kids who are constantly climbing, jumping, or moving and need a structured outlet for it
  • Kids working on balance, coordination, and body awareness
  • Kids in gymnastics, dance, cheer, or sports who want extra practice at home
  • Kids who settle better into homework or bedtime after a few minutes of rhythmic movement

Sensory systems supported

  • Vestibular (balance and movement through space)
  • Proprioceptive (body awareness, joint and muscle input)
  • Motor planning and coordination

How to use it

  1. Unfold the beam on a flat, open area of floor or carpet.
  2. Connect additional beams end-to-end with the Velcro closures if you want a longer course.
  3. Start with a hand held for support, walking heel-to-toe from one end to the other.
  4. Progress to walking independently, then add turns, pauses, or stepping over small objects.
  5. Fold it flat and lock the ends closed for easy storage between sessions.

Product details

  • Folding balance beam: This foam folding balance beam suits all ages — younger kids can practice basic balance and have fun, while older kids can use it for gymnastics-style balance training.
  • Firm, safe landing pad: High-density EPE foam offers a stable landing surface and cushions impact on your child's joints.
  • Durable PU leather cover: Waterproof, easy to clean, with just enough friction for safe footing — and won't fade with use.
  • Anti-slip bottom: Keeps the beam in place while your child is balancing on it.
  • Connectable Velcro ends: Fold it flat and lock the ends closed for storage, or connect multiple beams end-to-end to build a longer balance course.
  • Competition-standard sizing: 4" top width (same as competition beams) on a wider 6" base for extra stability. Choose from 6, 8, 9, or 10 ft lengths.
  • Built to last: Reinforced stitched seams resist tearing and separating with regular use.
  • Easy to carry and store: Includes a carry handle and storage bag light enough for a young child to move.
Safety note: Always supervise young children on the beam and use it on a flat, open surface away from furniture. This tool supports balance practice at home and is not a substitute for individualized guidance from an occupational therapist.

Frequently asked questions

What age is the balance beam appropriate for?

The low, padded design makes it safe for toddlers just learning to balance up through school-age kids and gymnasts working on advanced skills — the beam grows with your child's ability.

Can I connect multiple beams together?

Yes. The Velcro end closures let you connect two or more beams end-to-end to build a longer balance course as your child's skills progress.

Is this a good fit for a child just starting out with balance work?

Yes. The wide 6" base and firm foam landing surface make it forgiving for beginners, while the 4" competition-width top still offers a real challenge as they improve.

In practice, this is what we typically see once a family adds 10 minutes of balance beam practice into the after-school routine: bedtime battles are shorter and homework starts calmer.
